About RARE EARTH:
The School of Design Studies at the College of Fine Arts (UNSW) is pleased to announce RARE EARTH, an education non-profit initiative that continues COFA’s collaborative art and design projects between universities in Australia and China.

RARE EARTH aims to create awareness about the importance of cross cultural art and design practice, education and sustainability for the future of cities. It will do this by challenging students to work together to collaboratively engage in dialogue and practice that deconstructs cultural difference and creates a basis for developing “shared visions”.

Who is RARE EARTH for?
RARE EARTH is a cooperative project between Donghua University (DHU) and The College of Fine Arts (COFA). The intended audience is art and design students, the public and practitioners in the creative industries in Shanghai.

How will RARE EARTH happen?
Students from The College of Fine Arts at The University of New South Wales in Sydney will collaborate with their peers from The Institute of Fashion at Donghua University Shanghai with the objective of creating and documenting their responses to a live studio brief encouraging a rigorous and immersive, situated response to Shanghai through artistic interpretations, interaction and co-creation using the city as a laboratory for the future. The work will be complied over the two weeks the form of an interactive media platform showing the process to the public as it happens.
