The Oasis Game Contract with Xindanwei.

Background for the assignment:

ELOS foundation Brazil was founded in 1995 on the initiative of various students. The foundation started two different initiatives Warriors Without Weapons and The Oasis Game.

The purpose of The Oasis Game is community development by creating and anchoring entrepreneurial spirit within the locals. We are investigating the world expo theme “Better City, Better life” seeking to implement and empower life improving initiatives. We are going to test a Brazilian method in a Chinese context and thereby explore the contextual use of change making processes within a hands on project. The idea is to connect with a community and discover the possibilities and resources with the local people. We will engage the locals in facilitation of workshops with the purpose of finding a common need. Together with the local resources we will meet the need and strive to reach the dream for a better community.

Philosophy and disciplines: The philosophy of The Oasis Game is based on the power of relationships, of dreaming, and on beauty, joy and pleasure. The six disciplines are Appreciative gaze, focusing on what we have and not what we don´t have. Relationships, the affection to take care of each other and to connecting with values. Dream, The best that the world can be. Design, The best shape, not only practical but needs soul “design thinking”. Miracle, we aim beyond the possible. Celebration, celebrate the outcome and evaluate, dwell in the moment, and reflection.

Assignment:

To find a community in Shanghai, connect and discover the possibilities and resources within the local people in order to empower them to meet the current and future needs, with a special focus on anchoring the spirit of entrepreneurship and caring. We will execute one Oasis Game during the project time.

Purpose & targets of the assignment:

Purpose: Mental change – Creating the caring and entrepreneurial spirit. To touch and move people incl. us. To be a catalyst for change creating long term empowerment within the community for the people to be able to meet their needs in the future.

Targets: Working with, not for. In order to create sustainability in the development of the communities, thus creating “Better city, Better life”.

THE CLIENT

After a few meetings with different organizations we found the perfect match.

Xindanwei = “new work unit”.
