Jason Porath – Things I learned to go from amateur to pro

Don’t be fooled by this poster! Our speaker is not a straight-up animation master! As the current technical director of Dreamworks Animation, Jason Porath is more like an effect artist type! That means instead of sculpting characters/environments, or lighting them, or animating characters, he is doing what can’t be sculpted or animated easily. Usually this means stuff like fire, water, explosions, physics-driven animation, etc. It can get very technical and does involve some light math. He will be sharing with us some composition and procedural animation tools and programs of a complicated effects shot, very interesting stuff for both amateur and pro.

Jason Porath has been working in film computer graphics professionally since 2002. He currently works as a visual effects artist at DreamWorks
Animation, and in the past has worked at Digital Domain, Luma Pictures, Stan Winston Digital, and about a dozen other places. He lives in Los Angeles, California and is a pretty cool dude. More about Jason Porath and his work, please see: www.jasonporath.com
